Can I open a MIDI file in MIDI.PLAY?

Yes. Drop a .mid or .midi file into your library and it plays straight away as falling notes, with no waiting, because a MIDI file already lists every note.

A MIDI file isn't a recording. It's a list of notes: which key, when, for how long, on which instrument. That's exactly what MIDI.PLAY needs, so there's nothing to work out.

Steps

  1. Open MIDI.PLAY.
  2. Drag the .mid or .midi file into your library, or click to choose it.
  3. If the file has several instruments, pick the one you want to play. The others play along as backing.

Only have a recording? See turning an MP3 into notes or a YouTube video into a tutorial.
